Short description of the contract or purchase(s): Scottish Canals wants to appoint 3-5 principal providers to work in partnership with us to deliver contractor services across a range of Civil Engineering disciplines across the whole Scottish Canals Network, including mini tenders for larger/complex projects.
The Canal Network is across 3 geographical areas namely, Lowlands, Crinan and Highlands as detailed below.
Lowlands covers the Forth and Clyde, Helix, Union and Monkland Canal Networks Crinan covers the Crinan Canal in Argyll Highlands covers the Caledonian Canal from Inverness to Fort William.
It is anticipated that the works will be mainly concerned with the canal networks civil engineering structures – bridges, culverts, retaining walls, reservoirs, tow-paths, buildings, embankments and cuttings.
The value of the contract over the full 5 year term is anticipated to be 25 000 000 GBP-35 000 000 GBP.
The projects within SC vary in value and risk but typically fall into the 3 areas below:
a. Low Value/Risk – project examples: bank protection, minor structure repairs (masonry works/pointing), ditching works, small scale tow-path upgrades, fencing etc.
Value range 10 000-70 000 GBP.
b. Medium Value/Risk – project examples: service diversions, structure renovations, jetties/moorings, minor embankment leak repairs or canal relining works, works requiring significant temp works (damming/dewatering/scaffolding, traffic diversions etc.), new builds, minor reservoir works, etc.
Value range 50 000 000-300 000 GBP.
c. High Value/Risk – project examples: major renovation projects, major reservoir works, innovational/commercial schemes (Paddlesports/Hydro schemes/water play parks etc.) etc.
Value range 250 000-1 000 000 GBP.
