Views eyes up apartments and commercial units on vacant site
Mancunian property developer Views has put forward a new scheme to redevelop a vacant site in Levenshulme into apartments and commercial units.Avison Young has prepared a supporting planning statement for Views in support of a full application submitted to Manchester City Council for a mixed-use residential-led development at 764 to 786 Stockport Road. The application seeks permission to demolish existing buildings on the site and construct a building of group plus up to three floors comprising 30 apartments, along with nine commercial units. The site, which is located on the edge of the Levenshulme District Centre boundary within the ward of Longsight, contains a number of vacant buildings as well as a car storage and repair area.A planning document submitted as part of the application said: “To summarise, the proposed development represents a high quality, sustainable form of development which will provide a mix of dwelling types and sizes, within a highly accessible location adjacent to Levenshulme District Centre.”It will also provide flexible commercial space at ground floor level, providing active frontages and direct employment opportunities to ensure a truly sustainable development creating a sense of place and a development with character.”The proposals come after Views also submitted proposals to transform 98 Wilmslow Road, on Manchester’s curry mile in Rusholme. The project includes 5,500 sq ft of commercial and restaurant space on the ground floor and 42 apartments on three upper floors. The proposed development of the site, which was previously a tyre-fitters and most recently a café, was the subject of a public consultation in autumn last year.
