Views sought on housing plans for Irvine’s former King’s Arms Hotel

Ambitious plans to breathe new life into the former King’s Arms Hotel in Irvine are moving forward after North Ayrshire Council launched a public consultation on the plans.The derelict town centre landmark is to be transformed into six new homes as part of North Ayrshire Council’s housing programme.The six amenity properties will be a mix of one and two-bedroom homes with redevelopment work currently scheduled to get under way in Autumn of 2022.Members of the public can view and comment on the draft plans until December 10 here. An online draft plans consultation event is also being held on December 2, with appointments available between 4pm and 6pm. To book a place, please email developmentandstrategy@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or telephone 01294 324031 by November 29.The consultation event allows interested people to obtain information about the project, view the draft site plans and house designs, and discuss any concerns about the building works.Councillor Jim Montgomerie, cabinet member for Green New Deal and sustainability, commented on how the transformation of the well-known town centre building will allow the creation of high quality, affordable and accessible accommodation while respecting the building’s listed status.Originally dating from the early 19th century, the King’s Arms Hotel is a Category C Listed building and is located within the Irvine Town Centre Conservation area.
