Vote set for schools business case and contracts
The full business case and a number of contract awards could be approved for a new £11.8m school extension in Birmingham next week.Members of the city council’s cabinet will meet on Tuesday 26 March to vote on the proposals for Saltley Academy.A planning application was submitted for the Belchers Lane school on 23 January and is due for determination on 11 April.At the meeting, councillors will be asked to vote on capping the capital cost of the project to £11.8m as well as authorising the director for education and skills to instruct Acivico to raise work orders up to the value of £10.2m with Balfour Beatty in order for works to start and to release contingencies and place further orders up to £530,000 if requiredCouncillors will also vote on whether to place orders up to the value of £635,273 with Acivico for professional services.Subject to approval, the main works are due to start on 7 May 2019 with a proposed completion of 11 September 2020.Saltley Academy is part of the Washwood Heath Multi Academy Trust.
