West Belfast could be getting its own ice rink as part of Council leisure investment
West Belfast could be getting an ice rink, it emerged on Thursday. The plans are part of a £40 million revamp of leisure facilities in the west of the city. They are expected to see a replacement leisure centre built at the old Andersonstown site as well as a brand new facility in the Colin area.It is understood the ice rink, if it gets the go-ahead, may be built on the same site as the Colin leisure facility.Belfast Live understands the rink will be large enough to offer the Belfast Giants a back-up training facility. Last month a Giants game had to be cancelled after a One Direction concert was re-scheduled because band member Liam Payne took ill .The new sites are part of Belfast City Council plans to invest around £105 million in new leisure facilities across the city. It is understood those plans include a few leisure centre to replace the Robinson Centre in East Belfast which closed amid some controversy earlier this year.Sinn Fein councillors Stephen Maginnes and Ciaran Beattie are involved in the process to get the two facilities up and running.
