Willmott Dixon wins £38m Pontypridd regen scheme

Willmott Dixon has sealed the main build contract with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council to deliver the £38m Taff Vale redevelopment in Pontypridd.Projects consists of two office blocks and a library and leisure hubThe site on Taff Street has been an eyesore in the Valleys town after a proposed retail-led scheme fell through more than seven years ago when the developer collpased.The new scheme will involved building two new office blocks offering nearly 160,000 sq ft of space and a striking rounded gateway library/leisure hub.Both office buildings will feature curtain walling, with the third building employing a distinctive zinc cladding tile system.Willmott Dixon will also carry out public realm and highway work, as well as basement parking and bike stands.Aberdere-based groundworks specialist Walters Group is carrying out enabling works allowing Willmott Dixon to start construction of the new buildings. This is the latest scheme for Willmott Dixon delivered under the SEWCSAP framework.It’s the latest in a series of mixed-use developments Willmott Dixon are behind that are transforming town centres. In February, the private builder secured a contract to build the £80m Rochdale Riverside for a joint venture between Genr8 and Kajima in partnership with Rochdale Borough Council.
