Work begins on City of London Police and Courts shared HQ

Construction work has begun on a new shared headquarters for the City of London Law Courts and the City of London Police. The building, named the Salisbury Square Development, on Fleet Street is funded by the City of London CorporationThe Salisbury Square Development will have a design life of 125 years, which the City of London Corporation claim is twice the design life of a standard commercial development. Once completed, the building will have a sustainability rating of excellent and 99% of the materials from the building previously on the site will be reclaimed or recycled. When completed in 2026, the City of London Law Courts and the City of London Police will have 45,785 square metres of space in the Eric Parry Architects designed building to share.The final building will have 18 courtrooms in a combined setting for magistrates, and civil and crown courts. City of London Corporation said 400 new jobs will be created at the new joint headquarters, which will be home to 2500 jobs. “The use of the space to bring all aspects of the justice system in one place is more than simply symbolic: it demonstrates how businesses, the judicial system and the police are part of a whole-system approach in keeping those that live, work or visit the City safe, and feeling safe,” said City of London Police Commissioner, Angela McLaren.City of London Police is the UK’s leading force for cyber and economic crime investigations. The City of London Corporation said the new headquarters had been designed to meet the needs of policing both economic and cyber crime.
