Work commences on SSEN Transmission warehouse in Dundee
Highlands-based Global Infrastructure (Scotland) has broken ground at Claverhouse East Industrial Estate in Dundee on a multi-million pound storage facility for SSEN Transmission. The 7,500 sq m facility – and an identical unit under construction at Inverness Airport Business Park – are set to play a critical role in the continued expansion and maintenance of Scotland’s electricity network. They should be completed during the first quarter next year, incorporating heavy lifting facilities, bunded areas for oil-filled plant, storage areas, offices and welfare areas for staff, plus electric charging points and soalr panels.Last year, Global Infrastructure was awarded the contract to design and deliver the two buildings, with work at the Inverness site commencing in August.Managing director David MacDonald said: “Steelwork for the Inverness building is well advanced and groundworks in Dundee will commence imminently in line with our schedule to deliver both units early next year.”John Baillie, project manager at SSEN Transmission, said: “The new operations warehouse in Dundee is an exciting new development for us, allowing the space for facilities which we can use to effectively maintain and manage our high-voltage electricity transmission network.“These new warehouse developments in both Dundee and Inverness are part of a huge period of growth for SSEN Transmission across the north of Scotland, which will help us as we work to reinforce and build an electricity transmission network which will deliver a network for net zero.”Don’t miss the latest headlines with our twice-daily newsletter – sign up here for free.
