Work due to begin on 340k sq ft logistics development
Work is set to start later this year on a 340,000 sq ft logistics development in South Yorkshire after planning permission was secured.Barnsley Council has now approved Firethorn Trust’s plans for the site, which will sit within the wider ‘Phase 2’ Gateway 36 project, earlier this month (5 July 2022) and the developer has now revealed further details of the project.The 24-acre site, to be known as Barnsley340, will comprise a Grade-A warehouse unit spanning 320,000 sq ft, in addition to 20,000 sq ft of office space.Constructed to Net Zero carbon, Barnsley340 will target a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, with renewable design features and sustainability initiatives to enhance cost- and energy-efficiency.Work on site will begin later this year, with practical completion due in the third quarter of 2023.Paul Martin, development director at Firethorn Trust, said: “Now that we’ve received the green light, we’re excited to begin construction and swiftly bring our plans for the scheme to life.”As the market continues to experience pent-up demand for modern logistics space, and the region benefits from ongoing inward investment, we are confident that the Firethorn specification will unlock the full potential of the site, bringing wider economic and employee benefits into the area.”Barnsley340 fronts the Dearne Valley Parkway, less than one mile from Junction 36 of the M1. The wider Gateway 36 project is being brought forward by Yorkshire-based land and property regeneration company Harworth Group.The agents for the scheme are Gent Visick and Knight Frank.
