Work on major Swansea development set to start

Work on a major new high-tech office development designed to provide space for 600 jobs is set to begin in Swansea city centre in the summer.The council’s cabinet has agreed to commit funding to the scheme, which is planned for the former Oceana nightclub site at 71/72 The Kingsway.Worth about £32.6m a year to Swansea’s economy once operational, a five-storey, carbon zero development is planned. It will also feature a roof terrace, greenery and balconies.Set for completion in early 2023, it will include 114,000 sq ft of commercial floorspace and is being part-funded by the Swansea Bay City Deal as part of the Swansea City and Waterfront Digital District project.The European Regional Development Fund, through the Welsh Government, is also providing support.Cabinet also agreed to commit funding to the refurbishment of 69/70 The Kingsway, which used to accommodate a branch of Barclays Bank.A three-storey, glass and metal-fronted development is planned.
