Work set to start on former fire station project
Work on the redevelopment of a fire station located in the shadow of Teesside’s iconic Transport Bridge is set to start next month. The two-storey Ferry Road building, which was built in the 1990s, has stood empty since it was closed by Cleveland Fire Authority in March 2016. Now in the ownership of PD Ports, it is to be converted, refurbished and extended at a cost of about £800,000.This will create a new harbour master’s office with an additional ground floor suite.Howarth Litchfield was appointed by Turner & Townsend, the construction consultancy and project manager for the scheme, after its design team submitted the winning idea for the redevelopment of the building.Mark Pearson, project director at PD Ports, believes the redevelopment of the site “reflects our long-term commitment to investment in our business and as Statutory Harbour Authority for the ports of Tees and Hartlepool”.
