Work starts on £2.9m fire station

Derbyshire-headquartered Wildgoose Construction has started work on a £2.9m community fire station in the south of the county.The company was named as the principal contractor for the new Swadlincote Fire Station, which will also accommodate East Midlands Ambulance Service, recently.Wildgoose will demolish the 1950s station and training centre in Civic Way and build a two-storey building and separate tower and smoke house in its place for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.The steel framed building, designed by JTP Architects, will be finished in a combination of brick, render and cladding and an aluminium roof.It will include bays for four fire engines, accommodation and offices for staff, a gym and catering facilities.It will also have community facilities and a meeting room alongside parking for up to 36 vehicles. A smoke-house and tower will be built for training purposes.Work has started on site and the build is expected to be completed in November 2018. When finished, it will house up to five full-time and 18 part-time staff.
