Work starts on £3.7m flood defence project

Work has started on a £3.7m work defence scheme in Stokesley.The Stokesley Flood Alleviation Scheme, which is due to be completed in spring 2021, is expected to provide improved protection to 509 properties in the town, as well as £46m of economic benefits over the next 50 years.Preparation works have begun to help manage the flow of the River Leven, allowing for the main construction works to progress.The scheme is part of the current six-year capital investment programme, with government funding of £2.6bn provided to better protect 300,000 homes from flooding and coastal erosion between 2015 and 2021.The contractor working on the project is BMMJV, a joint venture between BAM Nuttall and Mott MacDonald.
