Work starts on hospital building redevelopment
Work has started on the redevelopment of a grade II-listed former hospital building in Leeds.The Ida building in the old Cookridge Hospital campus has stood derelict for a number of years.Construction and building services firm Esh Construction will now redevelop the grade II-listed building into a 64-bed facility to provide housing and extra care.The Ida building can trace its history back to 1886 when John North and his wife gifted £6,000 to open a convalescent home on the site, in memory of their daughter Ida. The ward opened in May 1888 and was in use until the whole hospital site closed in 2008.Esh is also currently on site building an extra care housing project for Places for People in Nunsthorpe, Grimsby, with 60 bed spaces to be created.
