Work underway at development on former fire station
Construction has begun on the site of a former fire station to create new apartments.Built by Yorkshire-based Caddick Construction on behalf of WDH, the development on Stuart Road in Pontefract will comprise 37 one- and two-bedroom apartments. The development forms part of Wakefield Council’s Reconnecting Pontefract Masterplan, which includes proposals for the redevelopment of priority areas around Pontefract town centre to better connect the historic town centre with the Castle, Racecourse and new leisure hub.The site has been identified as a gateway to the town and the three storey apartments will feature a creative and modern roof design, to draw visitors’ attention as they enter Pontefract town centre. The properties, which will receive £1.67m funding from the Homes England Wave 2 programme, will all be available for affordable rent from WDH and are a precursor to the wider regeneration of the Horsefair area of Pontefract. The apartments are due to complete in early 2023.
