Work underway on £5m University of Huddersfield project
Robertson Construction has started work on a £5m project to create a new flagship research space at the University of Huddersfield’s School of Computing and Engineering.Working in the live campus environment, Robertson will undertake internal remodelling and create a new façade.The 29,600 sq ft project will be the new location for scientists and engineers researching areas including digital manufacturing, virtual reality, internet of things (IoT), digital forensics, fluid sciences and electric vehicles.It will also include a new ‘Smart House’ – a two-storey domestic dwelling inside a laboratory in which research and development work will take place on smart energy technologies. domestic environmental monitoring, new interfaces for home entertainment systems and robotics for assisted living.Solar panels will also be installed on the roof to support the university goal of achieving carbon neutral status.The project is set to be completed and fully commissioned in readiness for use by September 2021.
