Work underway on Gateshead health centre

Work has started on a new health centre at the former ‘Dunston Rocket’ site in Gateshead, which will provide patients with a larger and more modern practice and allow for the relocation of the nearby Glenpark Surgery.The work is part of the £20m regeneration of Ravensworth Road in Dunston being led by homebuilder Keepmoat Homes in a partnership with Gateshead Council.Engie has been contracted by Keepmoat Homes to build the health centre, which will be finished by the end of the year. The centre is one of the final elements of the regeneration scheme, with the first phase seeing the the demolition of the tower and adjacent deck access blocks followed by the creation of new neighbourhood facilities including an Aldi food store, Boots pharmacy and apartments for older people.Keepmoat has now also started work on 45 new two- and three-bedroom homes, which will be released for sale in March.Ian Prescott, land and partnerships director at Keepmoat Homes, said the work had been “a huge undertaking”, but the project was now in the final stages.
