Work underway on new health and wellness club
Construction is underway at the David Lloyd Bury St Edmunds at Marham Park, with the new facilities opening in late 2024. The new club is set to generate more than 75 jobs.Located on the new Marham Park development, on the north edge of Bury St Edmunds, the new club will offer a range of health, fitness, racquets, and spa facilities.The centrepiece of the club will be the 100-plus station gym, while group exercise studios will host more than 100 classes each week.Other facilities include heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, cushioned acrylic indoor tennis courts, and outdoor padel courts.In addition to the fitness facilities, the new club will include an indoor and outdoor Spa Retreat, David Lloyd Clubs’ wellness offering and a hydrotherapy pool.Stuart Caswell, new club acquisitions director at David Lloyd Clubs, said: “We’re excited to see the development at David Lloyd Bury St Edmunds progress at such a great rate. “While the opening of the new Club isn’t due until this winter, we’ve already seen a lot of enquiries from those interested in joining which is fantastic news.”David Lloyd Clubs has a target to become carbon net zero by 2030. By the end of 2024, they are set to install solar PV systems in 40 clubs, one of which will be the newest site at Bury St Edmunds.The development was granted planning permission in July 2023, following an extensive consultation with the local community. The application built upon Countryside’s outline permission for leisure use on the Marham Park site which was granted in 2016.
