Work underway on universitys new public square
Construction work is underway to transform part of Coventry University’s city centre campus into a public square.The £2m project, designed by Broadway Malyan, will see a five-storey building named after the inventor of the Penny Farthing demolished.The James Starley building currently runs along Cox Street in between The Hub, Charles Ward, George Elliot and Maurice Foss and Coventry Sports Centre.It was constructed in the mid-1960s and has been home to the department of health and life sciences.The works are being carried out by specialist landscape contractors Killingley. Gardiner & Theobald and Aecom have also played significant parts in managing and organising the project.Works are expected to be completed by May 2021.Approval was granted for the scheme by the city council in May 2018.
