Aggregate Industries boosts eco-awareness

Aggregate Industries, as part of a partnership with the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, have been teaching university students about the importance of being environmentally conscious through providing nine of them with an experience of viewing the Haughmond Hill Quarry site.

The Project Officer at Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Tom Howells added: “We are very excited to be able to offer students this opportunity and grateful for the support of our partners. We are certain it will be a fascinating and valuable day”

After visiting the quarry site, students were then given the opportunity to each receive an hour of professional coaching, sponsored by Aggregate Industries and provided by a company named Shropshire CoachWalk, wherein they would be advised on how to take advantage of opportunities and take them forward into their future careers.

The Quarry Manager at Haughmond Hill, Robert Farenden stated: “Supporting this project is forward looking. We all need to be aware of our impact on the environment and Aggregate Industries takes that very seriously. Supporting these students today will mean they are well informed to make a positive contribution in whatever career they choose.”

The Aggregate Industries and Shropshire Wildlife Trust partnership is also offering an internship programme, based around environmental awareness and incorporation of academic principles into the construction sector, that will hopefully encourage university students to become environmental ambassadors within the company and protect the natural environment during future projects.

A life coach from Shropshire CoachWalk, Larry Wright concluded: “CoachWalk is grateful to Aggregate Industries for sponsoring the coaching with the students at Haughmond Hill. Our coaches work across industry and the local community and their coaching skills will provide focus and structure for the students to plan their next steps, and we hope they will make great contributions to society and the environment in future.”
