Croesyceiliog School completed in Torfaen

Croesyceiliog School in Torfaen, Wales, has finally been completed after a lengthy construction process and £30M worth of investment from the Welsh Government.

Going into more detail, Croesyceiliog School was commissioned under the and is the latest school to be completed under the programme for the Torfaen County Council, with facilities to accommodate 1,200 pupils within high-standard, modern education suites that are environmentally-friendly.

Design-wise, the building itself is three-storeys in height and covers a total area of 10,000sq m with this space covering the likes of classrooms, a double-height assembly hall, a drama and learning resource centre, and also a dining area, all of which are classified as ‘Excellent’ under BREEAM energy efficiency criteria.

The Operations Director for Kier in Wales, Jason Taylor stated: “We would like to thank the Minister for Education for visiting Croesyceiliog School, a project we are extremely proud of. Working collaboratively with Torfaen Council, we are delighted to be providing state-of-the art, energy efficient facilities for over 1,000 pupils.

“Throughout the duration of this project, we have engaged with the school and the local community. We invited school ambassadors to regularly visit the site and report back progress to other pupils and we also provided apprenticeship and work experience opportunities. The school is now a focal point for the local community, and we hope its facilities will be enjoyed for years to come.”

The Welsh Minister for Education, Kirsty Williams commented: ‘The 21^st Century Schools and College programme is the biggest investment in schools and colleges since the 1960s.  The Welsh Government have already invested £1.4Bn in band A of the programme and there is more to come, with investment rising to £2.3Bn across Wales by the end of band B.  Torfaen have spent £93M so far and I thank the council for supporting this project and having the vision to deliver another school that pupils and staff can be truly proud of.’

The Leader of Torfaen Council, Councillor, Anthony Hunt added: ‘At £30M, this is the biggest single investment we have made in Torfaen as part of our overall 21^st Century Schools programme. It is also significant because it is the final project in Band A of our overall programme which ultimately will see nearly £300M invested in our school estate.’
