Development consent granted for M5 Junction 10 improvements

The Secretary of State for Transport has granted development consent for the M5 Junction 10 Improvements Scheme, marking a significant milestone for infrastructure suppliers and contractors as the project moves towards delivery.
Scheduled to begin construction in spring 2026, with completion expected by 2028, the approved scheme presents major opportunities across highways, civils, engineering, flood mitigation, and sustainable transport infrastructure.
Key features of the scheme include:
-
A new all-movements junction at M5 Junction 10, improving motorway access in all directions.
-
A new link road connecting the A4019 to the B4634 in west Cheltenham.
-
Widening of the A4019 Tewkesbury Road.
-
New active travel infrastructure and flood mitigation measures.
These upgrades are critical to unlocking strategic housing and employment sites in west and north-west Cheltenham, with developers contributing to the scheme’s funding. The investment aims to enhance capacity, resilience, and connectivity across the region’s strategic and local road networks.
Supply chain implications
For suppliers and contractors, the scheme—classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP)—represents a broad scope of upcoming procurement opportunities in:
-
Road and bridge construction
-
