Homes England scheme in Redcar granted planning permission



Homes England have recently been granted planning permission from the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council for the construction of some 375 new homes on the outskirts of Redcar in Teesside.

The Redcar project will entail the construction of these homes by the contractor company Galliford Try Partnerships North at a cost of £59M, with building taking place on the land to the west of Kirkleatham Lane.

Out of the 375 homes which are scheduled to be built, a total of 80 are reserved to be put on the market for private renting while another 108 will be reserved for affordable housing under affordable rent and shared ownership schemes, leaving the remaining 187 homes available for open market sale.

Over the course of the next five years, Galliford Try Partnerships North are involved in negotiations to provide a grand total of more than 1,000 new homes and at a total value of £180M culminative, the project in Redcar is the largest of these project in terms of the size of the project and is the second largest when considering value.

The Managing Director with Galliford Try Partnerships North, Sean Egan stated: “This new project has come about as part of our company wide strategy to work with Homes England to tackle UK housing need.

“We have been able to bring forward a proposal that will deliver high quality new homes on a superb site on Teesside, offering choice for local people – be they looking to buy, rent privately or to rent via a social housing provider.

“We are in discussion with potential partners to provide the affordable rented and shared ownership homes and hope to be able to announce more details in the near future.

“This latest scheme is one of eight major projects secured in recent months, driving business growth and protecting and creating jobs and training opportunities throughout the North East.”
