Redhill cinema development commences this month

Work is scheduled to commence on a mixed-use cinema development on Marketfield Way in Redhill, Surrey, this month as part of a flagship development by the Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.

The Redhill cinema development will be carried out by the contractor company Vinci Construction UK following appointment by the local council, with preparatory stripping works being carried out later this month ahead of demolition.

Construction of the new development itself will commence in May 2020 while completion will not be achieved until the summer of 2022, with the mixed-use building consisting of retail units, cinema units, restaurants, and 150 flats.

The London-based private residential property company Delph has been appointed as the housing provider for the aforementioned apartments, which will be sold out to the private sector.

The council expects for a total of 250 full-time jobs will be provided by the development, upon its completion, while hundreds more are expected to stem from the construction and supply chain components as construction is underway, generating a total sum of £9M to the local economy in addition to £20M which will be injected into the wider economy.

The Director of Place Services, Luci Mould stated: “The start of works on site is a really significant milestone for this landmark project and the wider regeneration of Redhill town centre

“Once complete it will be of huge community benefit, providing a multi-screen cinema, improved shopping and leisure opportunities and much-needed new homes. Both the construction and completed development will also provide hundreds of job opportunities for local people and boost the local economy.

“We are starting the main works in the new year so as not to disrupt trade for local businesses during the busy the Christmas period.”

In order for development to proceed, the Marketfield Road surface car park will be permanently closed from the 2nd January 2020 onwards.
