Translink highly recognised at CIHT NI Awards

The Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) NI has announced that Translink has won the Infrastructure Project of the Year Award for Belfast Grand Central Station, while York Street Station has been highly commended in the Active Travel Project of the Year category.

Assistant Project Manager Jackson Tuohey was highly commended in the Emerging Professional of the Year award from CIHT NI for his work on the Belfast Grand Central Station project.

The Infrastructure Project of the Year Award recognises Belfast Grand Central station as an outstanding achievement in modern transport infrastructure, setting a new benchmark for excellence in the transport industry.  The submissions were judged against the following criteria – engineering excellence, innovation, sustainability and environmental considerations, social and local community benefits and cost effectiveness.

Translink’s York Street Station has been awarded highly commended in the Active Travel Project of the Year category at the CIHT NI awards, highlighting the transformative impact of the new station on active travel and sustainable regeneration in north Belfast.

Translink’s Director of Infrastructure, John Glass said: “These awards are a tremendous achievement, recognising the significance of both Belfast Grand Central Station and York Street Station, and for Translink’s project teams. It’s a very proud moment when the efforts of our teams are recognised among their peers at such prestigious and hotly contested awards.”

Stephen Bradshaw – CIHT Chair of the NI Region Committee extended his congratulations to Translink and all project partners for their dedication and vision, commenting “their efforts have made Belfast Grand Central Station a catalyst for future development in Northern Ireland’s transport sector and in the surrounding areas of the city.”

Regarding York Street station, Mr Bradshaw added “York Street Station is a clear example of how transport infrastructure, when designed with active travel and community needs in mind, can deliver real social, environmental, and economic benefits”.
