4. Description: Chemistry research at Awarding Authority is pioneering multidisciplinary technology development in key themes of energy and environment; health; new and advanced molecules and polymers; nanotechnologies and advanced materials. The molecular beam setup in the Surface Dynamics Laboratory within the Department of Chemistry, requires a compact research-quality low energy electron diffraction (LEED)-Auger system which can fit within the CF 4.5” port* of the magnetic molecular interferometer (MMI) setup and can be used to measure the atomic scale surface structure of the sample studied within the MMI experiment.
The availability of a low energy electron diffraction (LEED) system which can be integrated within the magnetic molecular interferometry (MMI) setup will significantly upgrade the quality and type of science which can be measured with the MMI.
The MMI is a unique setup which was developed by the surface dynamics group and due to magnetic shielding constraints, the largest port through which a LEED can be inserted is a CF4.5 port.
