The Awarding Authority are planning to purchase a self-contained system for spectral characterisation of integrated photonic chips. The core of system will consist of a narrow linewidth, wavelength tuneable laser operating at telecommunication wavelengths. The laser should be able to operate in discrete steps (i.e., stepped mode) and also over a continuous range (i.e., swept mode). The exact spectral position of laser wavelength will be monitored internally by the laser. In addition, the system will also possess at least two detectors operating in the same wavelength range. These detectors will be controlled in synchronisation with the tuneable laser, such that spectral transmission and reflection scans of a photonic device-under-test can be performed in both stepped and swept modes. The laser output and detectors should be all compatible with single mode polarization maintaining fibre designed for the 1550nm operation.
