12. Other information: Scope of Requirement
A high-speed temperature field measurement device is required to understand the thermal and thermo-mechanical characteristics of high-speed impact, machining, laser ablation and other highly transient thermal events that occur during the manufacture and testing of next-generation advanced engineering materials including composites and hybrid materials. To characterise the role of thermal energy during such events, a sensor, in the form of an Infra Red (IR) detector is required. This needs to be capable of high data-capture rates (at least 10kHz under windowed resolution) of temperature field data in the IR spectrum. The sensor should provide high-resolution, high-fidelity temperature data within the field of view that allows the operator to measure large thermal gradients in a single temperature field and temperature changes over small periods of time – clearly and accurately.
