Supply Chain Enablement for Increased Competitiveness

Type of document: Contract Notice
Country: United Kingdom

1. Title: SUPPLY CHAIN ENABLEMENT FOR INCREASED COMPETITIVENESS
2. Awarding Authority: Queen’s University Belfast. Web: (Gerard Fegan).
3. Contract type: Supply contract
4. Description: Aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the UK Aerospace supply chain for advanced metal structural components the Northern Ireland Technology Centre (NITC) at Awarding Authority is planning to make a £5M capital investment in manufacturing and analysis technologies. The project SCENIC (Supply chain enablement for increased competitiveness) will establish an open access “manufacturing technology factory” encouraging and enabling increased research and development by the UK industry, SME’s in particular.
The Awarding Authority is posting this pre-engagement notice to gain further information from interested parties. The funding for this new venture has been secured from UK government through an Aerospace Technology Institute capital funded program. The NITC is looking to develop partnerships with technology providers in the areas below to help advance the knowledge and capability of the aerospace supply chain. Although the project will be predominantly focused on purchasing commercial technology, it is anticipated that those partners selected via competitive tendering processes will be encouraged to offer partial or full in-kind costs which will be used to off-set the government investment.
Aimed specifically at Titanium and other hard metal alloys, the project will have four main themes; High Efficiency Machining, Advanced Forming and Joining, Manufacturing Automation and Product & Process Assurance. Technologies include but will not be limited to:
Manufacturing equipment:
PKM Machining Centre with rotating linear axis
High efficiency Cartesian Machining Centre (Component sizes below 1M)
Advanced Multi-axis Mill-Turn Machine centre (bar stock up to Ø100mm)
