No other reasonable alternative exists for this procurement the Impella device is patent protected and Abiomed is the sole supplier and manufacturer of this product. This procurement is required for a specific cohort of critically ill patients. The absence of competition is not a result of the artificial narrowing of the parameters of the procurement.
