NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, on behalf of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board wish to inform the market that they intend to appoint Spar PLC as a retail partner for University Hospital Llandough Plaza convenience store.
University Hospital Llandough has 500 beds and approximately 300 000 patients this will increase to 750 beds and approximately 400 000 patients when the new Adult Mental Health Unit is completed.
The Health Board has created a modern bright and user friendly environment for patients, visitors, staff and the community, a high street experience has been created within a hospital environment. The Health Board is committed to delivering a healthy eating agenda requiring a 70/30 healthy eating split for our retail outlet.
The convenience store will be staffed and managed by NHS staff and we are seeking a supply chain partner to work in developing the business.
The supplier will also be required to provide training, supply all associated consumables.
No prior contract notice has been issued and a single tender has been invited and received from Blakemore and Sons Ltd.
The authority is applying a 10-day standstill period to allow suppliers in the marketplace an opportunity to appeal if they believe they have the capability to meet the Health Boards unique requirements.

NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, on behalf of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board wish to inform the market that they intend to award a contract as a proof of concept, for the supply of convenience foods and associated products via partnership arrangement for the University Hospital Llandough Plaza complex.
As part of the multi million development for a Adult Mental Health Unit in the Llandough area, the Welsh Government approved the application to provide community services to the local population as well as the patients, carers, staff and visitors using the site on a daily basis. As part of the benefits was to make available a convenience store which will be NHS run which boost the local community in employment, sustainable development and meet the healthy Agenda as directed by the Health Board.
As part of this contract there is a Health Board requirement to have their own recycling plant to meet our sustainability requirements, and have the ability to deliver single items as per of the contract.
This contract has been developed on a proof of concept arrangement for one year to test if this type of venture is viable on an NHS environment.
