Stewart Milne Homes to create four new communities in East Lothian

Stewart Milne Homes has been granted planning permission for several new developments and finalised a significant land acquisition in East Lothian.
Housing developments in Pencaitland, East Linton, and Haddington have each been green-lit, while a fourth application for the redevelopment Edenhall House in Musselburgh is to be submitted shortly. Collectively, these communities will deliver 443 new homes across East Lothian, a portion of which will be affordable to address the critical need for new housing in the region.
In Pencaitland, 120 homes have been given the go-ahead as part of the Castle Gardens community development. The Orchard in East Linton will comprise a further 113 homes, while 165 houses and apartments are expected to be built at Letham Views in Haddington. Finally, the proposed redevelopment of Edenhall in Musselburgh will deliver 45 detached homes and 19 affordable apartments and houses, with the retention and conversion of Category B Listed buildings required. It is thought work on these new communities will begin during the summer months.
Crucially, these developments will generate upwards of £110M in working capital and channel additional wealth into the local economy. More than 1,600 jobs will also be supported through The Orchard, Castle Gardens, Letham Views and Edenhall communities.
Gerry More, Managing Director of Stewart Milne Homes Central Scotland, said: “Our vision is to create a series of new communities in East Lothian that are fit for 21st century living but which incorporate traditional values and features from historical East Lothian towns and villages. It’s encouraging that our vision is being shared and recognised by the local authorities as evidenced by the positive outcomes from the planners and planning committees to date.
“We are providing thoughtfully-designed communities that will meet the demands of a range of buyers and mix of tenures. The Orchard, Castle Gardens, Letham Views and Edenhall are set to be prime examples of Stewart Milne Homes’ innovative approach to creating unique, sustainable and aspirational communities.”
Construction will commence at Haddington and Pencaitland in summer 2018, with East Linton to follow later on in the year.
