11,000 new city homes by 2022
A Cardiff Council report has revealed how more than 11,000 new homes are anticipated to be built in the city over the next five years (September 18th).The first annual monitoring report of the authority’s Local Development Plan, which was adopted last year, also shows an expected uplift in the rate new homes are delivered to help tackle the growing housing need in the city.Over the past 10 years, a total of 9,242 homes have been built in Cardiff but that figure is anticipated to be surpassed over the next five years with over 11,000 homes set for completion by 2022 according to the latest land supply estimates which excludes student housing. The Council is working with developers to help deliver sites in the Local Development Plan along with new supporting infrastructure in a phased manner. Through this partnership approach, some 2,000 homes could be achieved annually seeing growth of the housing stock between 1-1.5% per annum.
