Plan for homes at Clasper Village estate unveiled
A proposal to build 191 homes and a supermarket at the former site of the Clasper Village housing estate in Gateshead has been submitted.Gateshead Council is planning to build a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and two-bedroom apartments and bungalows across a 16-acre site. The proposal also includes outline plans for a supermarket on a two-acre site to the south of the development. A full planning application for the store is expected once an operator has been established.Originally built in the 1960s, Clasper Village previously comprised approximately 280 homes, including flats and maisonettes in low-rise blocks. The council decided to demolish the existing housing in 2011, eventually completing the work in 2018.A design and access statement prepared by authority said the public consultation which took place in February showed “much positive support” for the scheme from the local community. It said the scheme was devised to meet the “aspirations for the regeneration of the Teams area”, responding to the local housing needs.
