Winvic Construction Limited has completed construction of its first privately-rented-sector scheme in The Wullcomb, on Vaughan Way on behalf of Long Harbour, and in partnership with the Sowden Group, which is the first purpose built accommodation of its kind in Leicester city centre.
The development consists of 297 modern apartments as well as four ground floor commercial spaces, as laid out by the lead architect, Franklin Ellis, and also features an unusual donut shape in addition to cascading heights, all made out of local materials so as to celebrate the heritage of city.
The Director of Multi-room at Winvic, Mark Jones stated: “Our company values, turnkey contract experience, and project management expertise allowed us to transfer skills to the privately-rented-sector without difficulty.
“Working as one team with Franklin Ellis architects to find design solutions to complex challenges and creating robust relationships with Long Harbour, Sowden Group and Way of Life has made this scheme a delight to deliver.”
Furthermore, the local materials of which the development is made are of an exceptionally high quality, with insulation being fitted into the building’s fabric alongside various roof PV panels which provide an outstanding thermal performance as a means of supporting aims to make the development an all-electric building.
Partner at Franklin Ellis Architects, Joe Taylor added: “The building’s design is complex and takes its inspiration from many different sources, including Leicester’s manufacturing heritage and the desire to provide opportunity for future developments towards the waterside.
“It has been wonderful to work alongside Winvic on its first build-to-rent scheme which has set a new benchmark for high quality living accommodation.”
As a location, the development is designed to provide a high standard of living for young professionals in Leicester city centre while also providing a landmark gateway to other developments on the waterside, sitting on the edge of Highcross and being on the busy A50.
At this moment in time, Winvic is constructing ten city-centre, multi-room developments totalling a number of around 5,500 bedrooms that are set for completion by the end of 2019.
