II.1.4) Short Description: The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) requires a Grass Plot Harvester, to cut experimental plots. AFBI is Northern Ireland’s largest multidisciplinary science and technology organisation, with a vision of advancing the local and global agri-food sectors through delivery of scientific excellence. AFBI conducts agricultural field experiments at a number of locations throughout NI. A grass plot harvester is required in order to meet the scientific requirements of a number of research projects. A £45 million Soil Nutrient Health Scheme, funded by the Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is currently underway across NI. Part of this project involves fertiliser trials at eight experimental sites. A plot harvester is used to cut the grass on experimental plots three times a year, across the eight sites. This involves transport of a harvester and other heavy field equipment daily, for distances up to 120 miles return trip.
