Alton infrastructure works underway

Homes England has started works on a new multi million pound infrastructure project in Alton, Hampshire.

The works come as part of Homes England’s remit to ensure more sites are unlocked for housing development in order to deliver on the government commitment to improve the housing market. The infrastructure works underway include Highway improvements and a replacement railway bridge, which are essential in allowing the site to be unlocked for development.

The site being redeveloped is at the former Lord Mayor Treloar hospital, owned by Homes England. The project’s development partner Crest Nicholson plc will provide 280 new homes, including 56 affordable homes and a country park. The infrastructure works will also benefit an adjacent site, which is controlled by Harvington Properties, and is marked to deliver a further 243 new homes.

Reserved Matters applications for both sites have now been submitted to East Hampshire District Council.

Kevin Bourner, General Manager at Homes England said: “Homes England has taken the lead in delivering the infrastructure needed to bring forward the delivery of more than 500 homes. This is a great example of partnership working, with Homes England engaging with land owners and other partners to facilitate the development of these key housing sites. With the infrastructure now underway we are looking forward to working with our development partner Crest Nicholson to take our plans for the Lord Mayor Treloar site forward.”
