Principal contractor found for K1 Knightsbridge, London

Skanska has been contracted to carry out construction of the £141 million K1 Knightsbridge in London on behalf of The Olayan Group.

Measuring 31,600 square metres (340,000 square feet), the mixed used K1 Knightsbridge development sees the provision of high quality commercial, residential and retail space in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Olayan Group previously appointed Chelsfield as the property’s developer.

Designed by Fletcher Priest Architects, the project will comprehensively redevelop an existing plot bordered by Brompton Road and Sloane Street in the heart of Knightsbridge. Skanska was appointed to the second phase of the scheme under a pre-construction services agreement in November 2016.

It is thought that the lengthy construction phase will last 142 weeks, delivering contemporary office and retail space alongside 35 residential units and a rooftop restaurant. Despite this modernisation effort, the historic facade of the existing structure will be retained to preserve the neighborhood’s architectural character.

The project will also give Skanska the opportunity to train and create employment opportunities for locals. Ten work experience placements and eight apprenticeships are to be made available during the project itself to ensure the entire community benefits.
