Kier Appointed to Deliver School

Kier is pleased to announce that it has been appointed by the Department of Education (DofE) to deliver the £24.7 million Dover Grammar School for Boys project, which was procured through the DofE Construction Framework. The project was selected as part of the DofE’s Priority School Building Programme (PSBP).

The new project will encompass the design and construction of a new four-storey teaching block, along with an attached four-court sports hall, which will have a two-court multi-use games area and grass football pitch.

The aim of this project is to provide modern facilities for the school’s 860 pupils to enjoy, and the new building will replace the current one which was constructed in the 1930s. In order to keep the history of the old school, Kier will be relocating the existing pipe organ, a stained-glass window and some historical plaques.

The project is set to be completed by summer 2023.

Cliff Thomas, Managing Director at Kier Regional Building London & South East, said: “We’re pleased to be appointed to deliver this much-needed scheme. The new building will provide pupils with modern facilities and we look forward to utilising our vast experience in delivering school buildings to create a first-class learning environment for all that attend the school. We are also proud of our long-lasting relationship in delivering new educational facilities throughout Kent.”

Kier is a leading provider of educational facilities in the UK. It has recently delivered a number of projects similar to Dover Grammar School for Boys, including Harris Academy Bromley which was part new build and part refurbishment of an existing 11-16-year-old, 900 place all girls secondary school. This comprised of the construction of a new three-storey building providing classrooms, science laboratories, a library and a sports hall.
