Sky innovation campus will focus upon sustainability

The contractor company ISG has recently been appointed to a project on behalf of the TV production giant Sky, for the construction of a new innovation campus in Osterley, West London.
Going into more detail, the new Sky innovation campus will be a three-storey development, covering an expanse of 77,000sq ft, and will also consist of a hybrid steel and cross laminated timber (CLT) frame structure, featuring a full-height atrium and a glass ziggurat façade. Supporting the three-storey structure, there will also be a single-storey pavilion adjacent to it with a CLT pitched roof.
Furthermore, the new facility will be constructed on the former site of two other buildings which have already been demolished.
In addition to this, the building’s focus will be upon energy efficiency and sustainability as the structure will be built to a BREEAM standard of ‘Excellent’ and will feature components such as photovoltaic roof panels.
As well as this, a significant proportion of the building’s design will be prefabricated to reduce waste materials and onsite carbon emissions, with the building materials having been responsibly sourced and with 100 per cent of construction waste being diverted from landfill.
The Managing Director of ISG’s London Construction business, Steven McGee stated: “Sky is globally recognised as a company at the forefront of innovation, and this latest investment in spaces to inspire and nurture the creativity of its teams demonstrates the company’s commitment to delivering the best possible outcome for its people and its customers.
“People are at the heart of the design for the new innovation centre, which is targeting a WELL Gold certification, as is consideration for the planet.
“The focus around eliminating single-use plastics and reducing carbon are key areas which could have significant positive implications on behaviours and practices across the wider industry, and we see this as a major legacy of the project.”
