The structure of new City Hub in Nottingham is complete

The international property and construction consultancy, Gleeds, marked completion of the first phase in the construction of Nottingham College’s new £58M City Hub on Thursday 11^th July 2019 with an exclusive topping off ceremony that was attended by staff, students, and representatives of the Nottingham City Council as well as D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.

The ceremony marked completion of the structural frame while complete construction is scheduled to finish by September 2020 with the Hub aiming to provide the college and the community with high quality facilities as well as a Grade A business centre that is set to encourage the formation of new start-ups in addition to better collaboration between students and employers.

The new Hub will not only be the home of up to 2,000 students but will also feature a new performing arts space, a student retail outlet, a café, a training restaurant and bar, as well as improved education and skills resources.

The Director for Gleeds in Nottingham, Anthony Cork stated: “It is extremely gratifying to see the last steel take its place within this state-of-the-art building.

“The City Hub will enable the college to respond directly to the needs of local employers by supplying the skills required for Nottingham’s key growth sectors and students are already benefiting from the hands-on work experience opportunities a project of this scale presents. This is a fantastic facility and I have no doubt that it will be mutually beneficial for both the student body and the local economy long-term.”

The Hub was designed by Bond Bryan Architects and will occupy an area of brownfield land next to the intu Broadmarsh Centre on Canal Street. In fact, the entire Southside area is currently being transformed in order to provide a more fitting entrance for Nottingham city centre although the Hub is the first project under the city’s £250M Southern Gateway regeneration programme.

Another major project within this programme include the iconic reimagining of Nottingham Castle and Crocus place which will involve the development of a 100,000sq ft area of Grade A commercial space near the train station.

Gleeds was appointed cost manager and project monitor to the Hub project but also provides extra support to the project management team.
