Demolition commences at Erith Park development

Demolition has commenced on the site of the new £95M Erith Park development in South-East London, ahead of the construction of 320 new homes by the construction and property development companies Wates Residential and Orbit.

The Erith Park scheme has been commissioned by the London Borough of Bexley Council and will provide 256 affordable homes, comprising exactly 80 per cent of the development, with work expected to reach completion by 2023.

As a component of the construction scheme, both Wates and Orbit have pledged to provide a training boost to the local area and have thus hired 31 apprentices and 25 full time employees from the local community, thereby contributing to the training and employment initiatives outlined in Erith’s Building Futures Programme.

The Operations Director for Wates Residential, Glen Roberts stated: “The start of demolition is a significant moment for the Park East development, which will deliver hundreds of high quality new homes and a lasting legacy for the area.

“We are pleased to have been able to join together with our partners Orbit and the London Borough of Bexley to hear from residents about their fondest memories of the area. We are looking forward to the community being able to make new memories in Park East over the coming years.”

The Head of Regeneration for Orbit, Caroline Field added: “We are delighted Doreen and Mick could join us and to hear they are happily settling in their new home. We moved over 250 households from the old Arthur Street estate and aimed to find all of them a better quality home.”

Wates Residential and Orbit recently also completed the construction of a 587 home development on the Larner Road Estate in Bexley following a six year construction period and resulting in the mixed-tenure development achieving several awards.
