Work begins on Northampton government land housing development
Construction has begun on 212 new homes in a housing development in Northampton on government land owned by Homes England.
Built by Morris Homes, the government land scheme will form part of a wider 860 home development on land owned by the Government’s housing agency, Homes England, who have also invested £77 million in infrastructure for the district, including roads and parkland. Morris will deliver a mix of apartments and two, three and four bedroom houses at the site.
Around 1,000 homes have already been built at Upton, and Upton Park and Upton Lodge are planning to deliver 2,200 new homes in Northampton in total. The first phase of Upton Park homes are expected to be available in Spring 2020.
Stephen Kinsella, Executive Director for Land at Homes England said: “The start on site at Upton Park marks the beginning of a new neighbourhood for Northampton.”
“The development will offer a range of homes to meet the needs of local people, building on the success of the new community at Upton.”
Martin O’Toole, Regional Managing Director (Eastern) from Morris Homes said: “We are delighted to be working with Homes England on this new phase of development in the village of Upton. The Upton Park development will be a welcome addition to Northampton, and we are looking forward to it opening during summer 2019.”
Homes England is also seeking further planning permission for its Upton Lodge site to build a further 1,400 homes. The current project has been identified as appropriate by the local council, going with the requirements of their Local Plan.
The priority for the project is to create affordable housing that meets the needs of the local area and can be delivered quickly. The government is aiming to create 300,000 new homes by the mid-2020s along with supporting infrastructure.
