Kier Celebrate Construction Milestone

Kier has reached a key milestone in the construction of NHS Blood and Transplant’s new Clinical Biotechnology Centre (CBC) in Filton, Bristol. The team working on the centre celebrated breaking through the new building to the existing main building.

Work stated earlier this year (2020) to deliver the new state-of-the-art building which will eventually co-locate with the Cell Therapy Facility at the Filton Blood Centre. The two-storey extension will be 940m2 and will provide first class facilities to support research and development in gene therapy. The new extension will include laboratories and clean rooms along with offices for clinical staff.

The new Clinical Biotechnology Centre is due to open in 2022, and throughout the construction Kier is working in partnership with its specialist supply chain to deliver the centre.

David Snell, Operations Director for Kier Regional Building Western & Wales, stated: “This is an important milestone for the new Clinical biotechnology Centre, breaking through the building means we are one step closer to linking this new extension to the main building and the centre being ready for occupation.”

Carol Ash, Accountable Executive for the Filton-CBC project, said: “We are delighted with the progress that is being made on site and we are grateful to Kier and Enbloc for their efforts in keeping this project on schedule.”

Kier is currently on site delivering vital new healthcare facilities across the UK, with other projects including the £98m transformation project at Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot.
