Veterans with dementia benefit from new facility
12 Feb 20

Military veterans with disabilities and/or dementia in High Wycombe are set to benefit from the construction of a new specialist care facility by the contractor company Stepnell on behalf of the charity Royal Star and Garter, at a cost of £25M.
Going into more detail, the facility can accommodate both veterans and their partners and contains a welcoming and therapeutic environment that is BREEAM certified with a rating of ‘Excellent’ and was also specially designed by Scurr Architects, being built by Stepnell over the course of 83 weeks.
Specifically, the development contains communal facilities such as a large dining room, lounge, physiotherapy room, bar, hair salon, activity and training rooms as well as a landscaped garden area, with enough bedrooms to accommodate 74 residents, 30 of which are specially designed for dementia patients.
The Regional Director at Stepnell, Rob Speirs stated: “We are really proud of the completed project and have thoroughly enjoyed working closely with such an amazing charity. Being able to create a comfortable space where veterans can benefit from the high-quality care, they deserve has been incredibly rewarding for the Stepnell team, and something we hope to do again in the future.”
“Royal Star & Garter’s Wycombe Home is a great addition to Stepnell’s portfolio of luxury care facilities. Health and care are one of Stepnell’s key sectors, and our specialist teams have managed to deliver a wide range of modern, state-of-the-art schemes across the UK in recent years.”
The Chief Executive of Royal Star and Garter, Andy Cole added: “We are immensely proud of our stunning new home and of everything that it represents. It enables us to care for even more veterans and their partners through specialist residential car and day care for people living with disability and dementia.”
