HS2 unveils latest green bridge near Kenilworth

The new Stoneleigh Road bridge is a dual carriageway designed not just for vehicles but also as a vital green bridge, providing safe passage for wildlife over the HS2 railway. It is one of 16 similar structures on the HS2 route between London and the West Midlands, supporting biodiversity with dedicated nature corridors. Construction of the 33-metre-long, 42-metre-wide bridge began in October 2023, with a team of 50 people at peak activity. The bridge deck was formed with a huge 1,900-cubic-metre concrete pour in late 2024, followed by the installation of 32 parapets. With the main structure now complete, engineers will realign Stoneleigh Road over the bridge and build a new roundabout connecting to Stoneleigh Business Park. To enhance the wildlife corridor, nine-metre-wide strips of hedgerows and vegetation will be planted along both sides. The road realignment and landscaping are set to finish by Autumn 2025, with traffic expected to start flowing over the bridge soon after.
