A coalition of Staffordshire County Council, Entrust, and the Victoria Academies Trust appointed Staffordshire-based contractor, G F Tomlinson, to construct a new £5.2M primary school in Cannock which has now been completed.
Poppyfield Primary Academy, in Hednesford, Cannock, Staffordshire, will be ready for students attending school this September after construction began just one year previously, opening its doors on Thursday 19th September 2019 at an official opening ceremony.
The school has been constructed on a former greenfield site in order to accommodate the new families that have moved into various new-build housing estates in the area, with major redevelopment works constructing more than 700 new homes as well as retail developments.
The Director at G F Tomlinson, Chris Flint stated: “We are delighted to complete works at the new Poppyfield Primary Academy and provide essential education places for the growing community within this area. The region is definitely on the up seeing sustained growth with a number of developments taking place across all sectors.
“We are looking to expand further into the West Midlands and look forward to growing our portfolio of projects across the region.”
The school will accommodate 210 primary pupils and 26 nursery pupils within its seven main classrooms, each able to accommodate 32 pupils, two smaller group rooms, each accommodating up to 16 pupils, large playing field, multi-use games area, woodland area, playground, and car park.
The Cabinet Member for Learning and Employability at Staffordshire County Council, County Councillor Philip White added: “Ensuring there are enough good school places available to parents is a key priority for the county council.
“Poppyfield Academy has been built in response to new housing in the local area, and we are proud to help create a school with a real community ethos, that can provide an excellent education for local children.
“The school is looking magnificent and I am sure it will offer an inspirational learning environment for local children.”
