2016 – A year in numbers
As 2016 draws to a close, the team at ALS Environmental would like to thank our staff, suppliers and customers. We hope you had a very Merry Christmas and wish you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
During this time of reflection we have picked out our top ten highlights of 2016. We are sure that when we look back you will agree that 2016 has been the best year yet for ALS in the UK & Ireland.
10: Infection Control Tips Covers ESKAPE Pathogens ALS Environmental received international coverage via the Infection Control Tips website in January 2016 for our paper on ESKAPE pathogens. The article has been featured in numerous UK publications prior to being picked up by the global collective of experts at infection control. |
9: Enhanced Air Monitoring Analysis ALS Environmental increased our analytical portfolio for Air Monitoring in September 2016. This method development included fibres in air and PM10 analysis. By increasing our accreditation for Air Monitoring we enhanced the support services we are able to offer the Waste Management sector. |
8: DWTS for Algae, Chlorophyll & Zooplankton During March 2016 ALS Environmental were granted UKAS and DWTS accreditation for Algae, Chlorophyll and Zooplankton. These methods are critical to our Utility customers who monitor and evaluate the safety of rivers and water courses. |
7: ALS Supports STEM with “Chemistry Down your Toilet” Student event ALS Environmental have an array of staff who are members of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the company are proud supporters of the STEM events for school children. We also held an interactive lab tour for local students in November who were treated to a laboratory tour and presentations. The event, titled “Chemistry Down your Toilet“ |
6: WM3 Compliant Persistent Organics Pollutants (POPs) October saw ALS become one of the first UK laboratories to be able to offer an extensive Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) suite of testing including all 12 of the Stockholm convention POPs. This development is in line with WM3 requirements and see’s ALS utilise our European sister laboratories who have been analysing POPS suites for decades. |
Throughout 2016 ALS Environmental have greatly expanded our portfolio of drop-off locations across England and Wales. The project continues to see ALS expand out geographical coverage and more news on this will follow in 2017; one of the highlights of this development has been the postcode search function on our website which has seen the most web hits since being developed in February 2016. |
4: Microbiology Trends event at ALS Coventry February saw ALS hold our inaugural client conference on “Microbiology Trends: Past, Present and Future”. The event saw a morning of presentations from industry leaders followed by an afternoon of interactive laboratory tours which enabled our clients to ask key questions of our analytical experts. |
3: ALS Open Otterbourne Laboratory ALS Environmental officially opened our 4th UK laboratory in Otterbourne in October 2016. The site, which includes a drop-off location for commercial customers, is the home of drinking water microbiology for the Southern Water contract which was won by ALS in the summer of 2015. |
2: ALS Completes Acquisition of ALcontrol UK In November 2016 ALS purchased the UK laboratories of ALcontrol, This deal represented the largest acquisition made by ALS in the UK and strengthened our position as the leading provider of analytical services in the UK & Ireland |
1: Combatting Legionella: Supplier of the Year In September ALS Environmental were awarded the prestigious supplier of the year award by H&V News. The award was for our work with MALDI-ToF confirmations and was, without doubt, the highlight of the year for the sales and marketing team. |
With such a successful year in 2016 we are excited to see what challenges and developments await in 2017.
